Case Study: Technical Project Proposal Non-Potable Water Pipeline

Overview:

Atlwest Communications was retained by SaskWater to complete the stakeholder engagement component as part of the feasibility study and Technical Project Proposal for a new non-potable water supply system for a proposed potash mine in southeast Saskatchewan.

Services:

Stakeholder engagement is an integral part of the environmental assessment process for proposed projects within Saskatchewan under The Environmental Assessment Act. It provides an opportunity to present project information to stakeholders, ensures stakeholders are informed about the environmental and regulatory process and is used to collect feedback to identify local and regional concerns and ideas that can be incorporated into project planning and design.

  • Identified key stakeholders for outreach and consultation;

  • Facilitated town and Rural Municipal council meetings to provide project information / updates and seek stakeholder feedback;

  • Coordinated and facilitated a series of public information sessions to provide project information / updates and seek public and stakeholder feedback; Identify opportunities for collaborative promotion campaign(s), with multi-stakeholder groups.  

  • Designed and facilitated First Nation and Métis engagement activities; and completed

  • Traditional Land Use (TLU) studies with First Nation and Métis communities

Results:

The Technical Project Proposal was submitted to the Ministry of Environment. The project is still ongoing.
